Blue-green against burnt orange — the two colours sit opposite each other, which is exactly why neither one dulls.
Two strands of turquoise, left as rough tumbled nuggets rather than cut into matching beads — each one its own shape, its own depth of blue, with the dark veining of the rock it came out of still running across the surface. Between every nugget sits a small carnelian, burnt orange against the blue.
The two strands gather into a flat silver bar worn horizontally across the chest, edged in fine granulation, and below it hangs a fringe: turquoise teardrops alternating with short silver tassels, each capped with another carnelian.
The Rough Nuggets
Tumbled, not cut. Every stone keeps its own outline, so the strand has a texture that matched beads never get.
The Counter-Colour
Carnelian sits directly opposite turquoise on the colour wheel. Each one makes the other look stronger than it would alone.

- Turquoise is porous and soft. Keep it away from water, perfume, hairspray, hand cream and oil, and put the necklace on last.
- Never use a silver dip, an ultrasonic cleaner or a liquid polish. A dip strips the oxidation from the bar and soaks straight into the stone.
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth only, around the stones rather than across them.
- Lay it flat to store so the two strands do not twist, and keep it away from harder stones that could chip a nugget edge.

Questions
Why turquoise with orange?
Because they are opposites. Blue-green and burnt orange sit across from one another on the colour wheel, and opposite colours intensify each other — the turquoise looks bluer beside carnelian than it does on its own, and the carnelian looks warmer.
It is also one of the oldest pairings in Himalayan and Central Asian jewellery, where turquoise and red stone have been strung together for centuries. Nobody designed the combination; it simply kept working.
Why are the stones rough instead of cut?
They are tumbled nuggets — polished smooth but left in their natural outline rather than cut down to matching beads. That is a deliberate choice, not an economy.
A strand of identical round beads reads as a manufactured object. A strand of nuggets reads as stone: the sizes step up and down, the veining runs differently across each one, and the whole line has a texture that uniform beads cannot produce.
How does 18 inches sit?
Eighteen inches puts the strands just below the collarbone, with the silver bar resting on the upper chest and the fringe falling beneath it. The chain is adjustable, so it can be worn a little shorter or let out.
The bar is designed to be seen flat, so it wants a neckline that leaves that area clear — a V, a scoop, or the open field of a saree drape.
What should I wear it with?
Handloom, and warm colours especially. Rust, brick, mustard, ochre, olive, cream — anything that picks up the carnelian lets the turquoise do all the work. It sits beautifully against a textured silk or a khadi weave.
Against cool blues and greys the necklace competes with the outfit rather than lifting it, and against a busy print the nugget outlines disappear.
How do I clean it?
A soft dry cloth, and nothing else. No water, no soap, no silver dip, no ultrasonic. Turquoise absorbs whatever it is put in, and a cleaner harmless on plain silver soaks into the stone and stays there.
If the silver bar darkens over the years, that is the oxidised finish deepening rather than tarnish. If it ever needs real attention, bring it back to us rather than to a high-street polisher.
