Red Tasseled Pearl & Silver Necklace
A silver amulet lying across the collarbone, carried on many strands of red, with three pearl tassels falling below it.
The centrepiece is a silver amulet case, worn lying flat across the collarbone rather than hanging from it. It is the old western-Indian form — a long capped cylinder, its surface worked in fine granulation, set along its length with alternating cabochons and silver bosses.
Around it, many fine strands of small red beads gather at the shoulders, with freshwater pearls set irregularly through them so the red never runs unbroken. Three tassels fall from the amulet, each one red and pearl-white together, ending in loose baroque pearls that swing as you move.

Granulated silver worked all over, stone-set along its length, and worn horizontally the way the old amulet cases were.
The Strands
Many fine strands of small red beads, with pearls placed irregularly through them so the colour never reads as a flat block.
The Three Tassels
Red running into white, ending in loose pearls. The centre tassel falls longest, so the three make a shape rather than a row.

- Put it on last, once perfume and hairspray have dried. Pearl is porous and dulls with repeated contact.
- Lay it flat to store, strands parallel and tassels straight. Bunching or hanging a many-stranded necklace is what twists the strands around each other.
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wearing. No water, no silver dip, no ultrasonic cleaner — a dip strips the darkening from the granulated silver and damages both pearl and thread.

What is the silver pendant?
It is made in the form of a traditional amulet case — the long capped cylinder worn across western India, hung horizontally so it lies along the collarbone instead of pointing down the chest.
The surface is worked in granulation, tiny beads of silver applied one by one to build the texture, and set along its length with alternating coloured cabochons and plain silver bosses. It is the oldest kind of silver work on the piece and the reason the necklace reads as heritage rather than costume.
Are the pearls real?
Yes — freshwater pearls throughout, in the strands and at the ends of all three tassels. They are baroque rather than perfectly round: each one has its own shape and its own surface, which is exactly what tells a real pearl from an imitation.
How does the adjustable thread work?
The necklace closes on a sliding thread rather than a fixed clasp, so it works anywhere from 14 to 25 inches. At the shortest setting the amulet sits high and the piece reads as a collar; at the longest the strands open into a V and the tassels fall well onto the chest.
Both are correct — they are simply two different necklaces. Try it short first; the amulet was designed to be seen flat.
How does something this full actually sit?
The weight is spread across every strand rather than pulling from one point, and the strands are fine enough to follow the neck rather than stand away from it. It settles differently each time you put it on, and it moves when you move — the tassels most of all.
What it needs is bare neckline. Against a high collar or a worked blouse the strands and the amulet fight the fabric for the same space.
What should I wear it with?
Plain and solid, in one colour. Black, ivory, white, deep green, mustard — anything that gives the red an empty field to sit against. A plain kurta with a simple dupatta, or a single-colour saree with an unworked blouse.
Keep the ears small. At this scale a matching set competes with itself; plain silver or pearl studs are enough, and the necklace does the rest.
