925 Sterling Silver Madhu Chandrika Lalima Amber Mirror Earrings

HANDCRAFTED 925 STERLING SILVER | BARMER

The Last Light of the Desert Sun

The Story

There is a moment in the Thar Desert when the setting sun changes the colour of everything it touches. The sand turns golden, the horizon glows orange, and the last light carries a warmth that seems to linger even after the sun has disappeared. It is this meeting of colour and light that inspires the Madhu Chandrika Lalima Amber Mirror Earrings.

Handcrafted in 925 sterling silver, these earrings combine warm yellow-orange mirror inlays with carefully arranged geometric forms and linked silver detailing. The design is long and slender, yet full of intricate elements that give it the character of a traditional ornament.

Each earring begins with a small floral motif formed from three amber-coloured mirror pieces. A pointed teardrop rises at the centre, while two curved petals spread outward beneath it. The arrangement resembles a stylised flower opening towards the light.

Below the floral top, four parallel silver links lead to a prominent rectangular mirror. Small circular mirrors on either side of the rectangle add symmetry, while the silver borders define the strong geometric shape. The mirror surfaces show variations from bright golden yellow to deeper burnt orange, giving each section its own character.

A second arrangement of four silver links descends from the central rectangle. Beneath it, three petal-like amber mirrors form an inverted floral motif. The design finishes with a small cluster of silver bead tassels, introducing delicate movement at the lower end.

The alternating floral and rectangular forms create a pleasing rhythm. Soft curves are balanced by straight lines, while the linked silver sections connect the separate elements into one continuous design. The suspended tassels add a traditional finishing detail without overwhelming the composition.

The earrings draw inspiration from the traditional sheesha mirrorwork associated with Barmer, Rajasthan. In the textiles and ornaments of the Thar Desert, small mirrors have long been used alongside embroidery and geometric patterns. Their reflective surfaces catch available light and introduce brilliance into richly coloured decorative work.

Measuring 8.5 cm in length and 2 cm in width, the Lalima Earrings have an elongated silhouette. Their warm amber-yellow mirrors contrast beautifully with the silver framework, making the design attractive with ivory, black, rust, indigo, cream and other earthy colours.

Wear them with a handwoven saree, a festive kurta, a simple linen outfit or contemporary evening clothing. Their slender proportions make them especially suitable for styling with an open neckline or hair arranged behind the ears, allowing the complete design to remain visible.

Part of Totapari's Madhu Chandrika Collection, the Lalima Earrings celebrate the warmth of desert colours, the beauty of traditional mirrorwork and the enduring appeal of handcrafted silver jewellery.

Care & Keeping

Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. Keep away from water, perfumes, cosmetics and harsh cleaning solutions. Avoid chemical silver dips and abrasive polishing, particularly around the mirror settings. Protect the coloured mirrors from scratches and impact. Handle the linked silver sections and delicate bead tassels carefully. Store the earrings separately in a dry, protective pouch or jewellery box, allowing the suspended elements to lie freely.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are the amber-coloured sections natural amber gemstones?

No. The earrings feature yellow-orange coloured mirror inlays, not natural amber gemstones. The word amber describes their warm golden and orange appearance. The mirror surfaces vary slightly in tone, from bright yellow-orange to deeper burnt orange, creating the rich colour contrast visible in the design.

2. Do the rectangular centre and lower tassels move when the earrings are worn?

The central rectangular mirror is connected to the upper and lower motifs through small silver links. These linked sections allow a degree of natural movement rather than forming one rigid piece. The beaded tassels at the bottom are also suspended, adding gentle movement to the elongated design.

3. How can I style these 8.5 cm earrings without making the overall look too elaborate?

Their long, narrow silhouette works well with simple necklines, plain sarees, cotton kurtas and contemporary outfits. Colours such as ivory, cream, black, rust and indigo complement the warm mirror tones. Hair tied back or placed behind the ears allows the floral top, rectangular centre and lower tassels to remain visible. A minimal necklace or no necklace at all helps keep the styling balanced.
