Conquer the World — Here and Now
Understanding freedom through mastery of response
The world does not bind us directly. What binds us is how the mind responds to what the senses encounter.
Reaction = mind alone
Response = mind guided by intelligence
The world within us is formed by how the mind reacts or responds to our interactions with the world. Most people imagine conquering the world as something external—success achieved, power gained, obstacles removed. To conquer the world within is to win over the mind through right understanding and the guidance of intelligence so that it responds correctly. It is not suppression, but mastery through clarity.
Part of an Ongoing Series
This article is part of our ongoing series on understanding the mind, intelligence, ego, and the deeper enquiry into the self. Each piece builds on the previous one, moving from observation to clarity, and from clarity to inner stability.
These ideas are not meant to remain theoretical. They are to be understood in the context of daily life, through direct observation and reflection.
At Totapari, jewellery is not seen as mere ornamentation. It is an extension of inner clarity. As understanding deepens, what we choose to wear becomes more intentional, simple, and aligned with who we are becoming.
Where the real problem lies
This rise and fall of happiness and unhappiness is not caused by the world itself. The world does not enter us directly.
Rather It reaches us through a simple sequence: the senses interact with the world, the mind interprets the encounter, and a response is generated.
Experience tells us that success brings happiness, but it never lasts. Failure follows, and unhappiness returns. The cycle of success and failures continues endlessly.
How the world exists for us
Consider a simple fact. When we sleep and the senses withdraw, the world disappears from our experience. When we wake up and the senses open, the world appears to us again.
This reveals a decisive truth: the world exists for us only through the senses and then perceived by the mind.
The world, therefore, is not absolute. It is dependent on our inner faculties. The world is when I am there. I am supreme and not the world.
The hierarchy within
When we look closely, an inner order becomes clear:
World → Senses → Mind → Intelligence+Vivek → Conscious “I” or Soul
Through the senses, we interact with the world. The mind perceives and interprets what comes through the senses, forming our experience. Intelligence guides the mind towards right understanding. As this experience gains purity, the veil or the dust over the mind is removed, and consciousness is revealed in its purest form.
Bondage begins when something lower is allowed to dominate something higher.
Why all experience reduces to two responses
However complex life appears, every response ultimately resolves into just two experiences: happiness or sadness.
Praise and gain bring happiness. Criticism and loss bring sadness. The situations change endlessly, but the inner movement repeats.
A vast world can generate only these two responses within us. The struggle, therefore, is not with the world—but with how the mind relates to these responses.
The meaning of real conquest
Trying to arrange the world so that it always produces a pleasant interaction in the mind is impossible. Therefore, freedom cannot be found outside.
Freedom lies in allowing intelligence to govern the mind— so that happiness does not intoxicate, and sadness does not devastate. The mind through the intelligence (our vivek buddhi) responds with equal poise to the two responses it generates (happiness and sadness). Once we generate this inner wisdom the world is slave to us.
When circumstances can no longer dictate your inner state, the world loses its power over you.
In closing
The world presents objects. The senses encounter them. The mind responds. Intelligence decides.
To conquer the world does not mean controlling everything outside. It means that nothing outside can control you within.
This is the real conquest—here and now.
